Cloud Folded Hill
The Cloud Folded Hill consists of
two hills and two peaks which are
layers of colorful rocks that look
like folded silks. The Hill is
known by other two names; Feng
Dong Hill and Gui Hill. It is
located in the northeast of Guilin
City and beside the Lijiang River.
This area first became famous
during the Tang Dynasty. There are
many fantastic edifices around the
hill that you can visit such as
Sheng Shou Temple, Yue Pavillion,
Qui Yuan Pavillion, Xiao You
Pavillion, Jing Feng Garret and
Mao House.
Crown Cave
The Crown Cave is located in the
southern suburb of Guilin. The
stream originated in the cave
flows to join the majestic Li
River and the cave itself is
divided into four parts, each
connecting with one another.
Visitors can sail into the cave
from Li River and admire the
unique appearance of the cave
which is dominated by stalagmite
and stalactite minerals.
Elephant Trunk Hill
The Elephant Trunk Hill earns its
name because of its shape that
looks like the model of an
elephant hanging its trunk and
sucking water. On the top of the
Elephant Trunk Hill stands the
Universal Wisdom Pagoda built
during the Ming Dynasty. The wall
of the hill is a living showcase
of stone carvings from the period
of Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty.
One of the most famous temples in
Guilin, the Yunfeng Temple, is
located on the southwest skirt of
the hill.
Fu Bo Hill
Another hill that is acclaimed to
be one of the most scenic spots of
Guilin is Fu Bo Hill which is
located outside the Fu Bo Gate in
East Guilin. In summer, Fu Bo Hill
acts as a natural frontier that
protects Guilin from the
overflowing waves of the Lijiang
River. There is also a Huanzhu
Cave at the bottom of the hill
that showcases numerous stone
carvings from ancient times.
Visitors can just walk into the
cave in autum and winter, but a
visit by a boat is required when
the tides rise in spring and
summer.
Lijiang River
The magnificent Lijiang River is
well known both at home and abroad
for its inherent charisma. The
river's course meanders through
many fabulous mountains and
picturesque villages throughout
the length of 83 km, contributing
as much a prominent feature of
Guilin's landscape as a source of
life and artistic inspiration for
the people along its banks.
Reed Flute Cave
The Reed Flute Cave is often
praised as "Palace of Natural
Art". Located in the
northwest of Guilin, this
legendary cave was formed by the
movement of the earth's crust over
a million years ago. Stalactite
dominates much of this 500-meter
long and 90-meter wide cave. There
are more than 70 calligraphic
works written on the wall of the
cave since the era of Tang
Dynasty. Apart from the prominence
of stalactite, there's a grass
named "reed" growing at
the gate. It is said that this
grass was used to make flute,
hence the name "Reed Flute
Cave".
Flower Bridge
This ancient bridge has been a
gateway across the Xiaodong River
to the Seven-Star Park since 700
years ago. There is a beautiful
Wind and Rain Corridor on the
bridge, and the arches of the
bridge reflect an image of full
moons in the water.
Seven Stars Cave
Formed about the same time as the
Elephant Trunk Hill, the Seven
Stars Cave was once an underwater
cave. It is about 1km long and the
highest point is 27m. The
continual seep of water through
the rock cracks and the sun light
during the day make this tunnel
look like a crystal palace. The
temperature inside the cave is
relatively cool all year
round.
Camel Rock
This hill is located in Seven
Stars Park, and its shape which
resembles a one hump camel has
earned its name as the Camel Rock.
Also called "Pot Hill"
in ancient times, this area when
covered with peach flower
constitutes one of Guilin's eight
famous sights.
Yao Hill
Yao Hill is 12km east from
downtown Guilin, and is home to
the biggest and highest hill in
Guilin. It's situated squarely
opposite to the Memorial Temple of
Emperor Shun which sits across the
Li River. Visitors to Yao Hill in
different months will also get a
different impression as the
scenery of the hill changes with
the season. Besides the hill's
natural charms, Yao Hill is also a
location of the Yao Temple, White
Deer Temple, Jade Breast Pond and
Tianci Field where the famous
Jingjiang King Tombs proudly
stand. There is also a cable
service to lift passengers to the
top of the hill.
